Kristian Vigenin: BSP must show its character and stability to defend its policies in the government

To have a positive discussion about policies and ideas to revive BSP. My plan is.: “For a Strong BSP! Together!

“BSP must show enough character and personality, sustainability to defend its priorities and policies in the new government and the people to see that it is worth being part of it.”  He specified that if the socialists had not accepted to participate in the government, the country would have had to go to another election. “I don’t think it would have been better for Bulgaria, nor for BSP.”, the BSP Deputy Chairman said.

Kristian Vigenin pointed out that the next few weeks will be important because the government program is negotiated – it should specify the concrete commitments. “Very important will be the first budget for 2025, which is going to be difficult. I am very keen to see some of our priorities included. This budget is crucial for BSP and we hope that the other partners in government will be understanding because if they are not, we will all have a problem.”, he warned.

Joining the government, BSP has been successful in defending many of its positions, but the explanation should have been clearer and quicker so that the impression does not remain that the party is ready to do anything just to be in government.”, explained Vigenin.

The BSP Deputy Chairman reaffirmed his thesis that the party has signed an agreement to govern and is not in a coalition. This is an agreement to form a ruling majority that supports a government.” He considers it necessary for the socialists to behave rationally in government. “It should not seem that BSP is the shadow in this government.”, said Vigenin.

On the issue of Bulgaria’s entry into the Eurozone, the BSP Deputy Chairman stated that the socialists do not see a problem with postponing for a while the membership in the community. “We support the membership in the Eurozone when we consider that Bulgaria is ready, not only with these formal criteria, but when we are sure – that this will not negatively affect incomes, investments, economic growth and when the measures to prevent possible problems related to speculation and price increases are taken.”

Kristian Vigenin sees no reason to extend the military aid to Ukraine, especially because there is a serious effort to stop the war and a trend towards negotiations – BSP indicates to resolve the conflict from 2022, he recalled.

Regarding the forthcoming election of the BSP chairman, Kristian Vigenin, who is one of the candidates, said that first of all a positive conversation about politics and ideas to revive BSP should be held. He will rely on a positive approach with concrete proposals for change, laid down in his program “For a Strong BSP! Together!”. He stated that he is a supporter of direct election because every socialist deserves the right to express his opinion.
