Kristian Vigenin in Brussels: Artificial Intelligence Expands Opportunities for Early Diagnosis in Healthcare

“The future of healthcare lies in prevention, and artificial intelligence is the key to achieving it. More resilient and efficient healthcare systems can be built by combining data analysis with responsible data governance.” This was stated in Brussels by Kristian Vigenin, Head of the Delegation of Bulgarian Socialists in the European Parliament, during the discussion “Advancing Preventive Care: The Role of Artificial Intelligence and Data Governance,” organized by him and the European Internet Forum. The event focused on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and the management of personal data in preventive healthcare, with a particular emphasis on data protection and patient privacy.

“Artificial intelligence offers significant opportunities for early diagnosis and personalized care, but the success of these technologies depends on the secure and ethical management of health data. Data security and privacy protection must be at the core of every healthcare innovation. Citizens must trust that their data is used responsibly, with clear rules for access, consent, and control,” Vigenin emphasized.

Participants in the discussion highlighted that realizing AI’s potential in healthcare requires a comprehensive approach, one that includes not only technological innovation but also effective data protection policies and public trust.

The discussion featured Fulvia Raffaelli, Head of the “Digital Health” Unit at the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) of the European Commission; Dr. Stefaan G. Verhulst, Co-founder and Chief Research and Development Officer of The Data Tank; and Gianluca Violante, Senior Policy Manager for Digital Health at the industry association DIGITALEUROPE.
