Kristian Vigenin in Burgas: They are trying to erase history, we must keep the memory of anti-fascism

Candidate for BSP Chairman proposes initiative for preservation of anti-fascist monuments

“We have no right to waste the party’s energy in internal confrontation. We have to resolve the conflicts, canalize our efforts in a positive direction and bring together people who can contribute to the BSP’s development. I have an idea to involve professionals in the policy formulation. We need realistic and applicable solutions.”, the BSP Chairman candidate said at a meeting with socialists in Burgas. He also warned that no dependencies and corruption allegations should be allowed.

We can mobilize and transform BSP into an effective party that can promote its policies. We can reform the party together from inside and come out stronger from the government.”, Vigenin is convinced. He explained that he is the only candidate who has published his program for transformation of BSP and its highlights are discussed during his meetings with socialists.

Kristian Vigenin outlined the necessity of expanding the BSP’s influence in the academic and cultural spheres: “It is important that BSP opens up to this rich national resource, because it is another opportunity to contribute to the development of our country.” He is also ready to restart the trainings for the youth in BSP and to entrust them with more responsibilities.

“The demonstrations of neo-fascism in our society are worrying.”, believes Kristian Vigenin. That is why he proposes that BSP undertakes an initiative to preserve the antifascist monuments. “We should identify at least one of these memorials in each region and restore it, in the context of the 80th anniversary of the victory over hitler-fascism. Systematic confrontation against neo-fascist movements is our responsibility. We need to recognize the faces of the contemporary fascism and neutralize it with constructive initiatives. Certain political groups are trying to remove monuments in order to erase our history and memory. We cannot allow them to do that!”, emphasized the BSP Deputy Chairman.

Kristian Vigenin said that he was a supporter of the direct election of the party chairman even before it was introduced in BSP because he had already seen its positive effect in other European left parties. “It is not good to deprive this right, every socialist’s vote is important. Moreover – we are in a direct election procedure and canceling it would create a legal problem for a possible appeal against the chairman elected by the Congress.”, he warned. Vigenin believes that the future chairman should be a person who can protect the party’s face and keep it at a certain distance from the government. “I am running for BSP chairman to win it. We need a person with managing, party and parliamentary experience, who knows the problems and proposes solutions.”.

A man of his word and a man of honor – this is how Kristian Vigenin was described by some of the participants in the meeting. They recalled specific acts of Vigenin as an MP – such as the protection of the livestock breeders in Bolyarovo. His in-depth work in solving public cases and problems was highlighted.
