We started the year with a wish for positive news and events for Bulgaria. I would like to thank the journalists who were my guests and together we gave our blessings to the new 2025. We started a tradition of talking with positive energy about the future.
While presenting my priorities for this year, I shared that my goals as a Member of the European Parliament include fighting poverty and decisions to support young people. Healthcare is also a top for priority for me – we need to facilitate citizens’ access to healthcare services, and there are solutions to come at European level. Artificial intelligence and data protection are topics that are high on my agenda, along with control of Europol and support for the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
In 2025, important decisions on the European Green Deal – efforts to adapt environmental, and climate policies to economic realities – are to be taken so as to strengthen the competitiveness of the European and, in particular, the Bulgarian economy.
I am already working on a report in the European Parliament’s Constitutional Affairs Committee that will set out the role of national parliaments in EU decision-making – a topic on which I also worked as Chair of the European Affairs Committee in the Bulgarian Parliament. I am a strong supporter of giving EU member states greater flexibility in implementing European legislation.
It is important that the information about my work is easily accessible, and for this purpose, we have developed a new personal website – vigenin.eu, which I presented along with my team and the new Information Office / situated at “Sredna Gora” 102 Str. in Sofia/.
Bulgaria needs a strong left because there are problems that can be solved only by us. The Bulgarian Socialist Party must be strong and effective, especially if it is part of the government. We need more self-confidence. Changes in BSP began last summer, but they should be continued.
The election for Chair of the BSP is coming soon. I have made my decision to join this race. I have good ideas. I count on being able to share these ideas in meetings with socialists in the coming weeks. I am taking part in order to win, but most importantly to be able to have a positive conversation about the future of the BSP.
