Kristian Vigenin: We will not allow people to pay the austerity price

The 2025 budget is an important test for the government.  BSP insists that people should not pay the austerity price. We are absolutely against stopping the growth of incomes and pensions or taking money away from social programs.”, said Kristian Vigein, Deputy Chairman of BSP and Chairman candidate.

He reminded that not BSP, but GERB had supported the budget for 2024, which, in his words predetermines largely the 2025 budget.

“Everyone should take responsibility.”, he said. The BSP Deputy Chairman expressed bewilderment at the refusal to impose a tax on banks’ excess profits because if this step is taken, it could reduce part of the deficit.

“Bulgaria’s entry into the Eurozone should come after the country is ready not only according to the formal criteria. It is necessary to undertake preventive measures against speculation and price rises, as well as to protect the Bulgarian economy.”, Kristian Vigenin said. He thinks that the experience of the countries that have already adopted the single European currency can be implemented. According to him, the state should assume its functions and explain through an adequate campaign the positives and the real risks of the accession, because a populist influence has been allowed on society on this topic.

On the upcoming election of the BSP Chairman, Kristian Vigenin said that he did not see a problem with the fact that there were 17 candidates. “I am ready to listen the ideas of each of them and implement the best ones.”, the Deputy Chairman reminded that he has chosen as a motto for his campaign “For a strong BSP! Together!”

“After the Congress and the direct election, we need to gather all the potential of the party and to develop a solid base for BSP. It is necessary to start with common efforts to follow such a policy that would be recognized by all left-minded people in Bulgaria. Together we need to start pushing upwards so that BSP can become an effective party, firmly bound to left-wing principles and ideas which it can implement in government.”,  Kristian Vigenin believes.
