Kristian Vigenin created EuroConverter, an app for easily converting leva into euro

On an idea from MEP Kristian Vigenin, young programmers created a new app, EuroConverter. It is easy to use and allows quick and accurate conversion between the euro and the Bulgarian lev. Its aim is to make the transition to the euro easier when Bulgaria joins the eurozone on 1 January 2026. The app is the ideal helper for citizens, businesses and tourists.

With the current fixed exchange rate, an intuitive interface and the ability to work offline, the app helps people calculate values from leva into euro quickly and without needless stress, which is particularly important in a transition period.

The app’s main features

Its main functions:

  • Instant conversion between EUR and BGN and between BGN and EUR
  • Automatic use of the fixed rate set by the ECB and the Bulgarian National Bank, 1 euro = 1.95583 leva
  • No need for an internet connection
  • Suitable for all ages and levels of digital literacy

More information, fewer fears

“The idea for EuroConverter is part of my efforts to bring more rationality and calm into the public discussion around the move to the euro. The app is a small but practical tool that will make things easier for people in their daily life and will reduce the uncertainty and worry around financial calculations and comparisons,” Vigenin commented.

“Instead of fears and speculation, what we need is information and practical solutions,” the MEP pointed out, believing that the transition to the euro has to be manageable, transparent and socially responsible.

The app is free and has two modes of operation, converter and calculator. EuroConverter is available to download from the Google Play and App Store. platforms.
