Kristian Vigenin honoured the feat of Hristo Botev in Vratsa

The head of the Delegation of Bulgarian Socialists in the European Parliament Kristian Vigenin took part in the ceremonial marking of 149 years since the heroic feat of Hristo Botev and his band in Vratsa. He attended the ceremonial roll call and salute together with President Rumen Radev, Vice President Iliana Iotova, the Speaker of the National Assembly Natalia Kiselova, the mayor of Vratsa Kalin Kamenov, members of parliament, municipal councillors, citizens and public figures.

Kristian Vigenin, together with the participants in the ceremony, paid tribute to the immortal feat of the poet and revolutionary who gave his life for the freedom of Bulgaria.

“Hristo Botev remains a symbol of the struggle for justice and freedom in our historical memory. His self-sacrifice reminds us how dearly independence costs and how valuable it is,” Kristian Vigenin said after the ceremony. He pointed out that the poet and revolutionary is the figure who carries the ideal of love of country, moral strength and dignity.

Vigenin also drew attention to the contemporary meaning of these values: “Today, in a world full of challenges, when populism, indifference and the loss of identity threaten our society, we need values such as freedom, courage and love of country more than ever. These are not simply words from the past, they are the reference points our future as a nation depends on. Every day, through our actions, we can try to keep these ideals alive and to be worthy heirs of Botev.”
