Kristian Vigenin: Let us have a year with good news for Bulgaria

Kristian Vigenin: Let us have a year with good news for Bulgaria

We began the year with a wish for positive news and events that bring good to Bulgaria. Thank you to the journalists who were my guests, with whom I foretold the new year 2025. We started a tradition of talking about the future with good energy.

In presenting my priorities for this year I shared that among my goals as an MEP are the fight against poverty and solutions in support of young people.

Healthcare is also a leading topic for me, we must make citizens’ access to health services easier, and decisions are coming at European level too.

Artificial intelligence and the protection of personal data are topics that are an emphasis among my tasks this year, alongside oversight of Europol and support for the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.

In 2025 important decisions are due on the so-called Green Deal and on the efforts to adapt environmental and climate policies to economic realities, so as to strengthen the competitiveness of the European and in particular the Bulgarian economy.

I am already working on a report in the EP Committee on Constitutional Affairs that will outline the role of national parliaments in taking decisions in the EU, a topic I also worked on as chair of the Committee on European Affairs in the Bulgarian parliament. I am a supporter of member states having greater freedom in applying European legislation.

It is important that information about my work is easily accessible, and for that purpose we developed a new personal website, vigenin.eu, which I presented along with my team and the new Information Office, which has been operating since today at 102 Sredna Gora Street in Sofia.

Bulgaria needs a strong left, because there are problems that can be solved only by us. The BSP must be strong and effective, especially if it is part of the government. We need more self-confidence. The changes in the BSP began last summer, but they must be continued.

An election of a BSP chair is coming soon. I have taken my decision to enter this contest. I have good ideas and I will count on being able to share them in the coming weeks at meetings with socialists. I am taking part in order to win, but the most important thing is that we manage to hold a positive conversation about the future of the BSP.

I gave the journalists a kind of amulet, a hot pepper tied with a red thread, to keep us from harm. Let the good stories we tell be more numerous.
