Kristian Vigenin - Social work, the heart of society's empathy

Social work, the heart of society's empathy

On the Day of Social Work, 18 March, we realise how important the individual is and that we can live more easily if we help one another. The work of the social worker is not only a profession but a mission and a calling for people with a big heart, compassion and patience.

Caring for people is the heart of society’s empathy. Such necessary care in this hurried world, in which each of us spares only minutes for the many matters of daily life. Let us pause for a moment and pay tribute to social work and to the people who do it. These people are imbued with nobility and carry the meaning of our humanity.

The labour and the care of social workers, their professionalism and their dedication to the most vulnerable Bulgarians is a feat within the commercial paradigm in which our society stubbornly moves.

This year’s theme

This year there is a theme with an important emphasis, which the International Association of Schools of Social Work, the International Council on Social Welfare and the International Federation of Social Workers announced as the theme of World Social Work Day in 2025: „Strengthening intergenerational solidarity for lasting wellbeing“. This is a recognition that care and the links between the generations are essential for the wellbeing of everyone and for fostering cohesive societies and functioning economies.
