The Socialist MEPs firmly reject the vandalism in front of the House of Europe in Sofia

The Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists in the European Parliament firmly rejects the acts of vandalism and violence by representatives and supporters of the Vazrazhdane party in front of the House of Europe in Sofia.

„We respect protest as a form of civic and political position, but not when it deliberately escalates into extreme forms that endanger the life and health of citizens and of law enforcement officers“, the position of the Socialist MEPs states.

Where the euro area debate belongs

In their view, democracy guarantees a plurality of opinions, and the place for the debate on the eurozone is first and foremost the Bulgarian parliament: „The National Assembly is called upon to take the final decision on whether and when Bulgaria is ready to join. We insist that this debate be conducted with arguments and facts, not with fighting and incendiary bombs. We call for a broad, calm and well-intentioned conversation, in which we are ready to take an active part as representatives of the left in the European Parliament.“

In conclusion, the Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists in the European Parliament also states: „We believe that Bulgarian citizens will not give in to the attempts to spread panic, and that the political hysteria will meet solid resistance from the responsible political formations that put the interests of Bulgaria first.“
