Kristian Vigenin talked with Bulgarian journalists in Brussels
Bulgarian MEP Kristian Vigenin from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament met regional correspondents of Bulgarian national media and presented to them the current topics he is working on.
He noted to the journalists that for the first time the European budget provides more funds for nuclear energy, around 10 billion euros, directed at safety, efficiency and the construction of new capacity. “The development of artificial intelligence and digitalisation will further increase the need for energy, which calls for a long-term and sustainable approach. The good news is that the EU already sees nuclear energy as part of the solution, which also reflects the position of the Delegation of Bulgarian Socialists in the European Parliament,” the MEP commented.
Defence, healthcare and the role of the media
“The funds for defence are increasing, but it is important that they go not only to weapons, but also to dual-use infrastructure, research and protection systems. This is also my main goal as rapporteur for the Group of Socialists and Democrats on the Regulation on faster permitting for projects in the field of defence,” Kristian Vigenin set out his position on another current topic. He added that security and defence are one of the priorities in the work of the European Commission and the European Parliament.
On the topic of healthcare, Vigenin said that negotiations are under way on the new Pharmaceutical Package, which will determine the future of access to medicines and the sustainability of health systems in Europe.
“Meetings like this with you, the representatives of the media, are extremely useful. Information about the role of the European Parliament and the work of Bulgarian MEPs has to be presented in an accessible way and reach as many Bulgarian citizens as possible,” the MEP said at the end of the meeting, thanking the regional correspondents of the Bulgarian national media for the interesting conversation.
