The socialists are uniting from European to local level in the preparation of the next seven-year EU budget

Today the progressive family of socialists and democrats showed solidarity and unity: the future of Europe has to serve citizens and answer their needs. The next multiannual financial framework (MFF) from 2028 onwards is not simply a budget, it is a fundamental political choice about our common future

Representatives of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) in the European Parliament and members of the Party of European Socialists (PES) in the Committee of the Regions gathered at a meeting in Brussels. From the Bulgarian side, MEPs Kristian Vigenin and Tsvetelina Penkova took part, as well as the mayors Vladimir Moskov (Gotse Delchev) and Rumen Guninski (Pravets), who presented the point of view of local government and pointed out the importance of direct support for municipalities.

The participation of Bulgarian mayors and MEPs

The participation of the Bulgarian representatives further underlined the importance of the topics that are of direct relevance to national and local policy. They put the emphasis on the need for dedicated investment in regional development, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and social programmes aimed at improving the quality of life in municipalities.

The Bulgarian MEPs and mayors will continue their active efforts in the debates on the MFF for 2028 to 2034. The goal is to guarantee that the European budget will include sustainable social, economic and green initiatives at local level. Bulgaria, through its voice in the European institutions, will insist on a fair share of the funds and on mechanisms for direct control by local authorities.
