Kristian Vigenin: Let us make artificial intelligence useful, ethical and safe

Kristian Vigenin: Let us make artificial intelligence useful, ethical and safe

“Active participation by Bulgarian institutions, businesses, experts and academia is needed in the process of drawing up practical guidelines for the application of the Artificial Intelligence Act.” This was stated by MEP Kristian Vigenin from the Group of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament after a meeting with representatives of the Artificial Intelligence Council at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The European Commission is holding a public consultation on high-risk artificial intelligence systems, a key stage in the application of the new act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689).

The role of the European Parliament and the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce

As a member of the European Parliament and of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), which is the lead committee on the subject, Vigenin put the emphasis on the need for balanced regulation that at the same time encourages innovation, protects fundamental rights and creates a predictable environment for developing technology with trust.

“I am grateful to the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for their readiness to help and provide their expertise. I am convinced that such partnerships are very important for the digital transition in Europe,” the MEP noted. “I will continue to work actively on the subject, because artificial intelligence is no longer the future, it is the present. It is up to us to make it ethical, safe and of benefit to everyone,” he concluded.
