Bulgarian MEP Kristian Vigenin from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament met pupils from the “Baba Tonka” mathematics high school in the city of Ruse during the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

During the meeting Vigenin presented part of his work in the European Parliament and discussed key topics from the European agenda with the pupils. The highlights included the balance between the development of artificial intelligence and the protection of citizens’ rights, the efforts to strengthen European security and defence, and the new European Union budget and the opportunities it opens up for Bulgaria.

The MEP stressed the importance of meetings like these for encouraging young people to take an active part in social and political processes, and expressed confidence that the young generation is informed, engaged and ready to contribute to the future of Europe.

Vigenin noted that visits to the European Parliament give pupils the chance to get a close look at the way decisions are taken at European level and at their direct effect on the lives of citizens in Bulgaria. He thanked the organiser of the visit, Esen Alieva from the Visits and Seminars in the European Parliament Unit.

At the end of the meeting Kristian Vigenin committed to visiting the city of Ruse in the spring, to continue the conversation with the pupils in their own school environment.
