„We need to explain better so that the benefits of our membership of the European Union are clear, and to promote good practices. Despite the big problem of euroscepticism, it must be perfectly clear that it is better to be part of the Union, because that way we have more opportunities. When we are part of something bigger, we have a perspective.“ This was stated by the head of the Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists in the European Parliament Kristian Vigenin to students and teachers at an international meeting under the European Parliament Ambassador School Programme in Bulgaria, Greece and Romania, organised by the European Parliament Offices in the three countries. A total of nine upper secondary schools took part, three from each country. Almost 100 students aged between 14 and 19 and 20 teachers attended. The main aim of the programme is to improve awareness among students of the work of the European Union and the European Parliament. The initiative introduces young people in the upper school to how they themselves could influence political and democratic life in the European Union.

Vigenin pointed out to the students that people would forgive omissions, difficulties or inaccuracies, but not corruption: „My advice to you, if you go into politics in future, is to be transparent in your actions. It is good to seek the truth by asking questions and looking for answers. That is the way.“

The MEP advised the young people to be critical, because not everything in the abundance of information is true. „Being active takes you forward. If you are active, you will create. If you are responsible and honest, you will succeed“, Kristian Vigenin said, pointing to the successful formula.

„Bulgaria, Greece and Romania can work together, and that way we will make our voice stronger in defending our common interests. All of us must find the balance in order to keep our world as we know it, despite the challenges and difficulties“, the head of the Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists emphasised.
