Socialist women visited the European Parliament in Brussels at the invitation of Kristian Vigenin

At the invitation of Bulgarian MEP Kristian Vigenin, socialist women from Yambol, Sliven, Karlovo and Gotse Delchev visited the European Parliament in Brussels. They learned about the work of the institution and the decision-making mechanisms, as well as about the procedures for adopting legislation in the EU and its preparation in the relevant EP committees.

Kristian Vigenin told his guests that among the priorities in his work are access to healthcare, the fight against corruption, security and the protection of personal data, as well as the whole range of questions related to the development of artificial intelligence. The MEP pointed out that he is in constant contact with the Bulgarian institutions involved in this area, because it is important that the national interest be defended as one in the shaping of European policies.

In a specially recorded video address to the guests the leader of the Group of Socialists and Democrats in the EP Iratxe Garcia drew attention to the role of women in politics and to the fact that it is they who find the good solutions to the big problems of society, such as childcare, the protection of workers and education. “Democracy is incomplete without the voices of women,” the leader of the socialists in the EP stressed, adding that the fight against domestic violence is not a private matter but a violation of citizens fundamental rights.

The programme of the socialist women visit also included a meeting at the Permanent Representation of Bulgaria in Brussels with the public relations adviser Dimitar Yaprakov and with Mila Petrovic, responsible for relations with the European Parliament. They told them about the work of the country Permanent Representation to the European Union and discussed with the guests topics such as the introduction of the euro and the consequences for Bulgarian citizens, as well as the priorities of Bulgaria for the next Multiannual Financial Framework of the EU.

The women from Sliven surprised Vigenin with a tasty round loaf, which was shared with the whole group.
