Vigenin from the PES Congress in Amsterdam: We are issuing a call for the mobilisation of progressive forces in Europe

On 17 and 18 October, the Congress of the Party of European Socialists (PES) took place in Amsterdam, bringing together socialists, social democrats and progressive leaders from all over Europe. Bulgarian MEP and member of the BSP Executive Bureau Kristian Vigenin took part in the forum as part of the Bulgarian delegation. The event sent a strong signal about the need for mobilisation of progressive forces in Europe and around the world in response to the growing challenges to democracy, social justice and sustainable development.

The European socialists’ Call for Mobilisation

The Congress adopted a “Call for mobilisation”, which sets out the main political framework and commitments of the European socialists, outlining the vision and policies of the PES on key public priorities:

  1. Ready for a better Europe – sets out the priorities for a stronger, fairer and more sustainable Europe.
  2. Jobs that provide income, protection and empowerment – with a focus on decent work, protection of workers and collective bargaining.
  3. Strong economies serving people – support for an economic model that puts people and social justice at the centre.
  4. For a just green transition – a balanced move to a green economy, without social exclusion.
  5. Democratic, vibrant and inclusive societies – protection of the rule of law, media freedom and the democratic foundations.
  6. A social Europe, a strong Europe – support for building a social pillar of the EU based on solidarity.
  7. Housing is a right – policies for affordable and quality housing for everyone.
  8. More feminism = more democracy – gender equality as a basic democratic principle.
  9. Real empowerment of young people – investment in education, participation and access to opportunities.
  10. Quality of life in cities and regions – sustainable development, access to services and cultural life outside the big centres.
  11. Universal access to quality healthcare – as a basic human right.
  12. Promoting peace, prosperity and inclusion in Europe and its neighbourhood – an active foreign policy based on dialogue and cooperation.
  13. For a progressive world order – multilateralism, global justice and solidarity as the basis of EU foreign policy.

“We are setting the priorities of the socialist family for the years ahead. I believe this will lead to greater trust in the left in Europe and in Bulgaria. BSP is part of the Party of European Socialists and takes an active part in the congress. The goal is the mobilisation of progressive forces in Bulgaria and in Europe. The challenge is big, but I believe we will manage. We are sending a clear signal: we have a vision, we have solutions and we are ready to fight for a Europe that puts people at the centre of all policies,” Kristian Vigenin said.
