Kristian Vigenin: Left politics is about creating equal opportunities
A priority for BSP, UNITED LEFT is social and demographic policy and support for young people
„There are several key problems for our country, one of them being the judicial system that does not work. We want justice for people, but it cannot be achieved with the way the system currently functions and because of the influences on it.“ This was stated by the Deputy Chair of the BSP Kristian Vigenin on the programme 120 Minutes on bTV.
In his words, another leading emphasis in the BSP, UNITED LEFT programme, social and demographic policy, can be achieved through a working and competitive economy. „If we do not do something for the young people of Bulgaria, for there to be Bulgarians, then everything else loses its meaning. These people must be educated and have access to good healthcare. In their whole complexity these measures will give a real result“, Vigenin pointed out.
What left-wing policy means
He explained that left politics is not simply about giving more but about creating equal opportunities. „It is about those who have more possibilities contributing more to society, and those who are most vulnerable receiving support“, the socialist added.
Vigenin stressed that even without a lot of funds you can make a difference, recalling the policy of free textbooks delivered by the BSP, and said another such possibility is medicines for children up to the age of 16 and for people over 75.
„The funds for social spending and support are not only expenditure, because they return to the economy, and by giving people more opportunities they will increase budget revenue over time“, Kristian Vigenin noted.
Progressive taxation and a fair vote
The United Left proposes introducing progressive taxation, a measure that even the International Monetary Fund recommends to Bulgaria. „This will not necessarily increase taxes, for some they will fall. But the funds will not come only from there. At present there is too large a grey sector, and we have ideas for how it can be almost eliminated“, Vigenin stressed.
The Deputy Chair of the BSP drew attention to the fact that at present in Bulgaria there is no talk of policies, and the debate is about what the government should be and who should be prime minister. „For there to be a government at a time when there are no clear majorities and there can be no clear political coalition, we must see whether we can unite around a programme, and then a prime minister will be found in a natural way“, he believes.
Kristian Vigenin called on people to come out and vote according to their conscience, so as to render the bought vote meaningless. „If at these elections there is something different that can give an incentive to vote, it is the unification of the left, its candidates and its concrete programme”. Support BSP, UNITED LEFT with number 28 on the ballot“, Vigenin urged.
